Cincinnati: The Queen City
Named one of America’s most livable cities in 2004, Cincinnati’s
designation as “The Queen City” is well deserved. Nestled
on the banks of the Ohio River in the heart of the Midwest-river-city
charm, big city attractions and small town friendliness characterize
Ohio’s third largest city and the seat of Hamilton County.
A walking tour of downtown will reveal a unique ambiance that includes
diverse architecture, outdoor sculptures and pocket parks. Scenic riverboat
cruises, festivals and King’s Island-one of the nation’s
top seasonal theme parks-also await. Love animals? The Cincinnati Zoo
is rated one of the Top 5 in the U.S.
Industry and Commerce
Cincinnati is home to Fortune 500 companies such as Procter & Gamble
and has built its diverse global economy on a variety of industries.
In all, nearly 350 Fortune 500 companies maintain operations here.
Sports and Recreation
A major source of pride to Cincinnati sports fans is the city’s
two major league teams-the Reds and the Bengals. Cincinnati also boasts
an abundance of parks, woods, lakes, municipal tennis courts and golf
courses. Huge basketball fan? The Greater Cincinnati area shares a proud
college basketball “rivalry” between the University of Cincinnati
Bearcats and the Xavier University Musketeers during the annual “Crosstown
Shootout.”
Shopping Dining and Entertainment
Be prepared for a sparkling array of options! Upscale shopping including
national favorites, such as Banana Republic, Tiffany’s and Saks
Fifth Avenue, is plentiful in the Queen City. Also available is fine
dining and an incredible variety of ethnic restaurants, art galleries,
unique specialty shops, nightspots, concerts, coffeehouses and outdoor
cafes.
Education
Cincinnati is a major learning center. Fourteen colleges and universities
with an enrollment of at least 10,000 can be found within a 100-mile
radius of Greater Cincinnati.
Culture and The Arts
Cultural options in Cincinnati rival those of larger cities. Residents
and visitors alike look forward to performances by the Cincinnati Opera,
Cincinnati Ballet, Cincinnati Symphony, and Pops Orchestra. The Cincinnati
Art Museum houses more than 100,000 works of art spanning 5,000 years,
while the restored Union Terminal (old time Cincinnati train station)
contains a variety of other museums and attractions and is one of the
country’s most spectacular examples of Art Deco architecture.
